Ryan Reynolds on SNL

Ryan Reynolds is now going to be hosting Saturday Night Live this week with special guest Lady Gaga performing.

Here's the promo video. Check out the part showing the shrub and the Gaga mask...funny.

It's always been a dream of mine to be on SNL...HEY LORNE MICHAELS!!!

MR LORNE MICHAELS!!!..if you are reading this you still have time to add me to the cast this week. I mean, I'll rearrange my busy schedule to come down there. Oh, whats that you say...my umm, television experience??? Well, umm, let's see...hmmmmmm...oh, yes...I once did a commerical for Sprite with the Pittsburgh Pirates...I mean...they did FILM the commercial with me in it...well...but, umm, it seems that I guess I got cut out of the 30 second spot during editing...totally unjust though...I freakin rocked that commercial. Oh, and then there was that internal United Way spot for Macy's annual donation drive...actually, umm, don't watch that one...actually....forget I even mentioned it.

Mr Michaels, could you at least leave me some tickets at will call? I mean, I'll just come and watch...in the very back row...in the dark...by myself...Oh, sorry...no extra tickets..OK...well, then I'll just watch...at home...what??...don't even watch at home...what the...umm...OK. I'll just go to bed early...Not sure if you know this but I have a big run on Sunday anyway...18 miles.

umm, thanks...beatingryanreynolds.com

I never want to see when I need a doctor!!!

So, if you wake up in the hospital and this is the first thing that you see...

You are in for some definite bad shit!!

I mean, you'll probably live but between the time you first see "Dr House" and when you finally get to go home, you'll probably turn green or blue, have a limb mysteriously fall off or have some crazy growth that no one can figure out.

I don't even know what hospital would hire him. It seems that the only people that go to that hospital have crazy, abnormal diseases that no one has even heard of. Who wants that stress every single day?!?!?

8 miles

Ran a nice 8 miles in the park this morning before work. Avg a 8:45 mile. Feeling a million times better than last week. Still chgging emergen-c like crazy. It has tons of vitamin c to keep the colds and what not away. Also keeps scurvy at bay....just look it up!!!!!

Tomorrow I have just a light weight workout plus some ab work that wil come in handy during the marathon. A lot of things can break down over 26.2 so you have to prepare as best a possible. Working abs can't be bad....earlier this year,I thought my abs were just a rumor!!!!!

Just hear Sal masakala (sp?) has challenged to beat p diddys time from his marathon. What a freaking copycat!!!!!! Just a note, Ive Already beaten diddy!!!!

EASY EIGHT

HI, running easy 8 miles in the park tomorrow morning. Been hydrating like a champ since last week...building up my mileage by running to the freaking bathroom all of the time...speaking of bathroom breaks...

A person at the shoot today asked me what people do when they REALLY have to go to the bathroom during the marathon... Well, some people stop at the port-a-john and others hold it while a small, very select few do as Nike said..."JUST DO IT"...while they are running...without missing a beat....not just #1 mind you...that's all I have to say...there are pictures out there but I run a "clean" site so I chose not to post any.

If it comes down to me having to do this to beat Ryan's time, well then, I guess a 3:55:00 isn't all that bad?!?!?!??!?!?!??!

Video Shoot with MJFF

Today was fun! Had a video shoot down at Deutsch Inc today to support MJFF. Basically I was asked a bunch of questions on "why Team Fox"?, "How did the website come about"?, "What makes a Team Fox person"?, It was a good time. I was sporting my beatingryanreynolds.com t-shirt, some varvatos jeans and my converse...gotta look good ya know. The good thing was that I filmed a quick United Way segment for Macy's annual donation drive about a month ago and when I saw the clip, I was very stiff and robot like. The director today was pretty damn funny and helped me be myself. So, hopefully, it'll come through on the film.

Thanks everyone down there!!! If you don't know it, the Deutsch offices are huge and go pretty much an entire city block. Truly amazing offices. I counted it as my workout today. Thanks Carmela for walking me through. I also checked out their website and it seems as though they really have their shit together...

check it out here...seems that creativity is job 1...2...and 3!!!!

900!!!!

We've now hit 900 different people that have viewed this website!!!!
Let's get to1000 by the big event on oct 14th. Thanks everyone
this is a blast!!!

TOGA!!! TOGA!!!

No, I'm not throwing a TOGA party, but it would be fun...What I meant to say was YOGA!! YOGA!! Since I couldn't run this weekend due to being pretty sick last week, a friend recommended that I used this time to rest up and work on flexibility. So I took a yoga class on Saturday and Sunday to help me get more loose before training begins again this week. Everyone in the class looks so graceful and flexible...compared to me!! The Reids are not exceptionally fast, but what we lack in speed, we make up for with our incredible lack of flexibility. I have to say, after 2 classes, I feel pretty darn good today. Maybe I'll have to keep this up until marathon time. OK, stop laughing. Don't knock until you try it!!

Feeling better today after taking the latter part of last week off and really resting for the first time in months. I'm going to start back with training today by running 6 in the park tonight.

Have a good one.

OUCH! good news/bad news

Well, I followed the training program meticulously and haven't had any issues until this point. I ran the 21 miles at 8:55 pace with no issues. I'll give you the good news first...structurally, I am fine...in fact, couldn't feel better. The bad news is that I have a massively painful viral infection in my throat so I have to shut down training for a number of days. Kind of feels like razor blades when I swallow. One thing that doesn't hurt to eat...BEN AND JERRY'S!!!! They're back and better than ever...come to papa Chunky Monkey!!...by far my favorite flavor.

So, I'm chugging gatorade, Emergen-C...loading up on my Z pack...and generally resting until I kick this. Just had a drool inducing 3 hour nap so hopefully that is a good thing.

OK. Later, Tim

Well, my throat is a mess. The cold is gone but it's like razor blades in the back of my throat. I haven't said a word in over 2 hours...which, other than sleeping, is a new world record for me. I also had about a million mg of vitamin C tonight (EXAGGERATING MOM!!). To try and kick this thing in the butt. We'll see how I feel tomorrow but I am going to the doctor in the AM as I leave for London and Hong Kong on Thursday night.

Will update tomorrow but I obviously am not running until this is much better. Do you think Ryan snuck up and dropped something in one of my drinks???? I've heard of stranger things...

Need Purell STAT!!!

So everyone is getting sick. Right now it seems as though there is a cold/cough/body ache thing going around. I have a small dose of it right now. I am planning on getting some Purell so that I can use it every chance I get. The one thing that I worry about is getting some sort of cold or the swine flu right before the marathon. I am traveling to London and Hong Kong this week followed by a trip to LA from October 19th through the 22nd. Nothing breeds bacteria like a plane full of sick people. Justing writing this is making me realize that I should purchase not only Purell but a SARS mask STAT!! Here are some of the ones I am considering:

Nike for those with an athletic edge or Louis Vuitton for those that "Only wear designer"!!!!

I love this one!! Very creative!!

Not sure if this helps at all, plus that sushi is WAY TOO BIG!!!

If there is a shortage, this is an option. But you need another person!! Oh Michelle, can we stop at Victoria's Secret?

Stay out of the sun or you will be certain to get the SARS tan line!! Much worse than farmers tan!!

What ever you do...DO NOT DO THIS!!!

12 miles at 9:00 pace

First couple of miles took me a little to warm up. Once I got going I kicked into my normal pace around a 9:00 mile. The 12 miles went pretty easily and seemed short once you have done 16 to 18 and 21 miles the last number of weekends. Happy to be done though so I can lay around and watch football this afternoon. Going to chug water/gatorade today plus airborne and vitamins to try and kick this cold out.

Sniff, Sniff

So now I have a cold. Not a big one but one that makes you a little tired and a little stuffed up. Running 12 miles today, going to do it relatively slow and in Jersey City/Liberty State Park. It's really flat so I won't run myself down too much. I have to try and get rid of the cold before my trip to Europe and Asia on Thursday night.

I'll hit 31 miles this week.

Have a good one, Tim

Edward Norton is running NYC marathon

Wonder what time he'll get? He was a competitive rower at Yale so he definitely has some endurance going for him. Plus, he's a pretty small guy. We'll, see what happens.

$729 at Southern Hospitality

Hello all. Raised $729 for MJFF at my guest bartending event at Southern Hospitality tonight. That works out to $243 per hour. That would be nearly $10,000 a week or $520,000 per year. Unfortunately, my friends don't drink 40 hours per week...I think only about 20 hours.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm nearing $13,000 raised.

Bartending is not an easy job...that's all I have to say. Well, just this one observation from being a bartender...When people are out in a bar expecting a drink and it takes more than one second to get them that drink...they look very annoyed. Even though it was for charity, people just look angry waiting for their alcohol!! Calm down people...there's plenty of Miller lite for all!! Not going to run out!

Have a good night.

21 was fun!!

I really feel amazing today even after my 21 miles yesterday. However, I did nearly choked on my protein bar this morning after being kind of dehydrated after my run yesterday. My first beverage of the day was a venti coffee at Starbucks...Big mistake!!!! Thought I would have to perform a personal heimlich maneuver. Luckily, I was able to chug some gatorade and dislodge the damn protein bar from my throat...Seriously, they need to find a way to make protein bars less chalky!!!

Here are a few posters to help you out if you ever need to perform this maneuver. Kind of looks like this kid is choking himself! Step one...remove own hand from own neck. If you can now breathe, stop choking yourself!!

This is seriously funny!!

Officially 200!!

I now weigh 200 lbs...down from 218 when I started this journey in May. The best part is that I haven't really cut back on anything...I guess that's what 25 to 38 miles per week will give you. Next up is getting down to 190 for the marathon. I gonna "try" and cut out simple sugars except for one cheat day a week. I'll let you know how that goes as simple sugars are my kryptonite.

20.8 miles today/38.3 miles for the week.

Hello all. Was supposed to run 20 but the run with the NY Flyers ended up being 20.8 miles...all in all, it was a good run. 8:55/mile so I was on the pace that I wanted to run. Total mileage was 38.3 miles for the week. It is officially the most I have ever run in one week.

Now I have to figure out my long runs over the next couple of weeks. The weekend of September 26th, I'll be in London, so I doubt I can run a 20 miler that weekend. I guess I'll see how I feel. Maybe I'll run another 20 next weekend. Then drop down to 15 in London and then do a 22 miler when I get back. We'll see what happens. Feeling pretty good right now.

Have a good one.

Tim

More Inspiration.

Hello all.

My parents did a great thing last week. They made copies of the Daily News article and sent it off to all of their friends with a self addressed envelope to my address. They also attached a note to their friends about this website and my raising money for MJFF. I've already received a number of donations from their friends. Thank you everyone. Some came with checks, some came with checks and nice notes attached. I am sincerely moved my all of the generosity.

Here's one especially moving letter sent to me.

"Tim:
As I hear of your running in the New York City Marathon, I am reminded of one of my hospice patients, John Kaufman. He's a 60 year old man and has a picture of himself in his nursing home room maybe 10 years ago running a marathon. He was a well-to-do business executive with a nice wife, house, children. Now, he cannot do anything for himself: talk, walk or feed himself due to his illness. He lost his executive position and his family lost their nice home, etc. As a Hospice Chaplain, I try to visit at mealtime so that I can help him get fed while it is still warm.

And then there is Charles Soergel, an 80 year old gentleman with advanced Parkinson's disease and another one of my patients in a nursing home. The pictures in his room indicted that he was a good, loved and loving husband, father and grandfather. Now he cannot do anything for himself. His wife would come to the nursing home twice a day to feed him lunch and dinner.

I spend time with each of these gentlemen, read to them...commend their lives past and present.

I support your running of the marathon for The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Disease. I support you in the name of John Kaufman and the memory of Charles Soergel

--Dick Roos"

Then he had the following quote "Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize" then he hand wrote "the prize is a cure for Parkinson's".

I am going to keep pushing for the "prize"

Thanks for reading, Tim

Always Looking Up!!

I seem to have great timing.

I've been waiting to read Michael J Fox's latest book, Always Looking Up, for a couple reasons.
1). I've been very busy working, running and fundraising.
2). I thought it would help to motivate me even more during the last hard month of training. and...I was certainly right about this...

The best part about his books are that they are such an easy read (no Mom, I am not listening to the book on tape and there are no pop-up pictures...sheesh...gimme some credit here). My parents were English teachers at different points in their lives and I think that it just amazes them that I am actually reading books lately. The thing is that when I am motivated by something, I will read.

The most motivating thing is that Michael J Fox could have just accepted Parkinsons, hid it for a number of years, retired and lived off of his money well earned. Instead, he is out there everyday trying to help to find a cure. The one thing that I think about is that I have been extremely active throughout my life. I'm not saying I was in shape all of the time but I've run 3 marathons (working on a 4th if you haven't heard), played ice hockey, basketball, baseball and other miscellanous sports. I can't imagine having a disease that robs me of my ability to have control of my body. The mind is still able but the body has a mind of it's own when afflicted by Parkinson's disease. I now think about this everytime I run and I will be thinking about this for the entire 26.2 miles of the NYC Marathon on November 1st.

Thanks again for the support.
Tim

Will the real Tim Reid please stand up...please stand up!!

It seems as though some websites that picked up on the Daily News article are linking it to Tim Reid the actor. Most recognizable from the hilarious sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati from the 80's. Here's a photo of the cast. I've circled Tim Reid the actor in red. He played the night DJ Venus Flytrap in the series. Also starred Loni Anderson, Howard Hessman amongst others.

Now, I am sure that Mr Reid is in quite great shape but come on!!! The guy is now 65 years old...not that it means he couldn't run under 3:50:22 but seriously...give me some credit here!!

Here's a recent picture of Tim Reid

Maybe I should change my name. If anyone has any good ideas for a name change for me, please let me know in the comment section. Thanks

So far, so good!!! As I mentioned, not all of my donations are showing up on my Team Fox page yet. On the page, it shows $8,600. In actuality, I have over $11,000 in donations with my $1300 from the Harbor Casino event plus Macy's company matches. The company matches take a little bit of time to hit the page.

Since my article ran in the Daily News on August 14th, nearly 500 new people have checked out the site and total donations went from $6,500 to where it is now.

I hope that we can get a ton of people to come to the event next Wednesday, September 16th (6PM to 9PM) It's at Southern Hospitality on the Upper East Side. The specials are $3.00 domestic beers, $4.00 imports and microbrews and $6.00 mixed drinks.

Thanks, Tim

I LOVE SEPTEMBER!!!

After all of those July and August runs in the 90s with crazy humidity, today was PERFECT!! About 70 degrees with very low humidity. Great run. 16 miles in 2:19:19 or 8:42/mile. Should be ready for my first 20 miler next Sunday. I'm going to run 6 miles on Tuesday, 6 miles on Thursday, 4 on Saturday and then 20 on Sunday. That's 36 miles or over 5700 calories burned!!

I wore my beatingryanreynolds.com t-shirt and had a couple runners stop and tell me how much they love the website. Great motivation.

My photo shop skills are very rudimentary but I am getting pumped for this race!!

Really about 4 to 5 weeks of real training before the taper. Marathon fast approaching!
