Hello everyone! Check out the NY Daily News today. There's a great article by Joanna Molloy about my website and my challenge of beating ryan reynolds.
www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2009/08/14/2009-08-14_life_of_ryan_this_guy_thinks_he_can_do_better
I met with Joanna and Craig (the photographer) on Tuesday, August 4th for a 30 minute interview and then we took photos and a video for about 40 minutes. It was great to be able to tell me story about the website and my raising money for Parkinson's.
Now that this is out, I will be training harder than ever as the article said..."I've called him (Ryan) out on this. So I have to do it". We'll see how I do this weekend at the NYC Half Marathon. I feel great and I am lighter than ever while training for a marathon. Weight is at 204 right now. I'll have to get down to 190 to 195 for the marathon. That'll make the run a lot easier. Every pound you lose is close to a minute off of your final marathon time. Plus every pound is 4 pounds on your knees...add it up...it's tough being a "bigger" runner. When I ran my first marathon, I weighed 235 lbs...that's when I lived in Pittsburgh and ate...well..pretty much everything.
Ok, gotta get ready for work. Tim

5 Days until NYC Half Marathon
Ahhhh, NYC in the heat of the summer. Nothing better than hopping on a train where the AC ran out. Seriously, I know the recession has hit some people pretty hard but deodorant at Target is like $1.49 a stick!!! Sometimes it's actually better to smell under your own arms...at least I know that I like "The Arctic Blast Scent" of my Degree antiperspirant.
Ran a loop at the park today after work...FREAKING HOT!! Not as hot as yesterday but still considerably gross outside. The main reasons why I like to train at 5:00 AM is that it is still somewhat dark (I know...I have a problem) and it is about 25 degrees cooler. I'm running 4 miles on Thursday morning and then just 3 miles on Saturday. The half-marathon starts at 7:00 AM on Sunday! Looking forward to it. All the best. Tim

Ahhh, the early Sunday morning workout
Woke up at 6:00 for a nice 10 miler in Central Park today. The nice thing about running longer runs (14+ miles) is that 10 miles now seems easy. Ran an 8:20 pace today and I am now ready for the NYC Half Marathon next Sunday. I'll be shooting for a PR time of 1:44:00. That would translate to a 3:36:00 marathon and would also give me some time to spare on November 1st.
Even though the temps were cooler, 70 degrees when I started, the humidity is always there in NYC in August. Definitely don't need to hit the sauna as I sweat out pretty much all liquids this morning. Hopefully next Sunday will be nice and cool but I'm not going to count on it. I ran a half marathon a number of years ago in August and it was 92 degrees that day...
b-bye,
tim

First Event
Hello all. Big news coming in a couple days. Thanks to all of the people following my blog...All 6 of you :0)...
The first event will be held on Saturday, August 29th from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at "The Harbor Casino" bar in Jersey City. Even though it has a casino in the name...this is a bar/restaurant only...unless it has a back secret gambling room...it is Jersey ya know. It's a great bar in the heart of Paulus Hook and is about a 10 minute walk from either of the PATH trains in the area
The deal is $30.00 at the door for open bar draft beer and Absolut vodka drinks from 6 to 9. What a great deal!!!!!!!!!!...Also, I will be the Guest Bartender for the evening and all of my tips will go towards my fundraising efforts. What this means is that even if my drinks suck, YOU DON'T HAVE TO...please make sure you tip me well as I will have run 18 miles that morning!!!
We will also have a silent auction for some great gifts as well as free beatingryanreynolds.com t-shirts to the first 25 people through the door. These will certainly be family heirlooms for years to come!!
Talk to you soon. Tim

Great Week!!
Hello all.
Great week running for me. Total of 22 miles. 6 on Tuesday, 6 on Thursday and then 10 fast miles today. Fast is always a relative term but for me it was 10 miles in 1:25:00. That pace over the 26.2 miles would easily put in under the Ryan Reynolds time of 3:50:22. My new pace time is to push to finish in 3:45:00. That would leave me some time open in case of a minor breakdown...not emotionally of course...but one of a phyical nature.
Anyway, training is going well. If I could ever give up Ben and Jerry's then I would really be kicking some ass. But that damn chunky monkey is so difficult to avoid!! Down to 204 pounds from 217 when I started this journey. Good stuff.
NYC half marathon coming up two weeks from today. I would like to run the race at 199 so I've got some work to do over the next 2 weeks. BTW, running over 8 miles in August is similar to 30 minutes in the sauna!!
Not sure what Ryan is doing lately, but, "Definitely, Maybe" showed up on HBO this month and my wife has already seen it 3 times. That didn't stop from me from having to watch it again. Most guys can recite lines from "Old School" or "Animal House"...I can recite lines from freakin "Definitely, Maybe"....shhhhhhhhhhhhh don't tell anyone!!!
